Please be advised that you will need to confirm that you have prior general experience in visceral and osteopathic medicine approaches and some experience of pelvic pain patients before being accepted on this course. Typically graduates of the CNMO women’s heath programme, or initial post graduate training such as the Molinari Institute Course would be a good entry level programme for this advanced level Certification. Please enquire if you have different prior training.
THIS CERTIFICATION INCLUDES A 2 DAY COMPLEX PELVIC PAIN COURSE, AND A ONE DAY INTRODUCTION TO INTERNALS COURSE (for indicative course content see below). Both with short introductory emodules. These 2 practical units can be taken separately or as a block, depending on course availability when you come to book.
You need to undertake the practical lectures first (with their preparatory emodules), then, follow an additional emodule / online programme of detailed relevant information, risk management, health and safety, consenting, clinical care protocols, evidence discussions and other material, which you should aim to complete within 6 months. These are assessed using the theory assessment listed below. Then, you must take 6 months to do the clinical observations and portfolios as discussed below, followed by a final peer assessment from your tutors. You can do these 2 six month blocks at the same time if you wish / have the spare time. You can take 18 months to complete the whole certification.
Observation of your palpatory and handling skills in the 3 days of practical classes.
Observation of your clinical interactions and understanding during your clinical observations (NB there can be some negotiation about where you could undertake these, and if a suitably experienced colleague is close by and can host your learning time, then this can be discussed).
CLINICAL OBSERVATION TASK:
YOU MUST ORGANISE 4 HALF-DAY CLINICAL OBSERVATION EVENTS WITH A COLLEAGUE WORKING IN THIS FIELD. THIS CLINICAL OBSERVATION MUST BE OF PELVIC PAIN PATIENTS, BUT NOT ALL HAVE TO HAVE INTERNAL PROCEDURES DONE ON THEM, BUT, YOU MUST OBSERVE A MINIMUM OF 2 INTERNAL PROCEDURES ON 2 DIFFERENT PATIENTS, AND ALSO PERFORM 2 INTERNAL EXAMINATIONS UNDER SUPERVISION one two different patients.
You also get:
MENTORING OVER 6 MONTHS, through the moodle platform, where Caroline and likely other tutors can also interact with you, respond to queries and you will get one meeting per month of 1-2 hours of a zoom chat, to help you integrate things.
You must complete a portfolio of 6 patients (including a patient feedback sheet if they consent to that) that you have managed independently relating to pelvic pain (which don’t all have to include internal examinations) and a multiple choice / short answer paper about relevant anatomy and pathophysiology, plus an essay on consenting and risk management of around 1200 words, which must be references.
THEN YOU WILL COMPLETE THE FINAL PEER ASSESSMENTS (interpersonal appraisal from any tutors engaged with you over the course of your programme) AND IF SUCCESSFUL, GAIN YOUR CERTIFICATION.
